Questions.
Can I host the standard Shopify app template on Meridian?
Yes. Meridian builds and runs the app in your own GitHub repository, including Shopify's React Router app template (formerly Remix) with Prisma. Point Prisma at the managed MySQL database and push. Migrations run once per deploy as a release command, before traffic moves to the new version.
Which database does Meridian provide?
A managed MySQL database for each environment, with the connection injected into your app automatically. PostgreSQL is coming. Production is backed up daily and backups are kept 7 days on Lite, 30 on Pro.
Do developers get their own database for local work?
Yes. Each developer gets a personal database for local work, started with the Meridian CLI (meridian dev) and never shared with a teammate. It is separate from the app's Development and Production databases, so local work never touches either.
What happens to webhooks if my app is down or busy?
Shopify sends your app's webhooks to Google Cloud Pub/Sub, not straight to your app. Meridian forwards each one, signed with your app's own secret. If your app times out or answers a 5xx or 429, Meridian tries twice more, 10 and then 30 seconds apart. Every delivery shows in a live log.
Can I have a staging environment on Lite or Pro?
Yes. Use the Development environment as staging: it has its own URL, secrets and database, so you can connect it to a separate staging Shopify app. Builds move to Production without being rebuilt. Enterprise adds a dedicated Staging step between the two.
How do rollbacks work?
A rollback switches all traffic back to a previous successful deployment instantly, with no rebuild. It reverts code and configuration, not the database, so migrations run once per deploy as a release step and production is backed up daily, and any backup can be restored.
What does Meridian handle that a general host leaves to me?
On a general host you get a server and assemble the rest. With Meridian it comes with every app: Shopify webhooks delivered over Google Cloud Pub/Sub, with per-shop subscriptions kept in sync as stores install and uninstall, failed deliveries retried and a live delivery log. A managed database with daily backups and migrations run on each deploy. Logs and resource usage. Alerts when a Shopify API version or breaking change affects your code. A vulnerability scan after each production deploy. Development and Production environments with PR previews, secrets in Google Secret Manager, and autoscaling. So when you compare prices, compare the whole list, not only the server.
Am I locked in to Meridian?
No. Your code stays in your own GitHub repository and runs as a standard container on Google Cloud Run. Any database backup downloads as a standard SQL dump, even while a payment is overdue, and you can export everything your organization holds at any time. If you cancel an app, its data is exported and emailed to the owners before anything is deleted.
Where is my app hosted?
On Google Cloud, in the EU (Belgium) by default, on every plan. On Enterprise you choose the EU or the US for each environment.
Which environments do I get?
Production and Development on every plan, each with its own URL, configuration, secrets and database. Enterprise adds Staging. Pull requests get their own preview deployments, and a build is promoted from one environment to the next without being rebuilt.
What happens when my app gets a traffic spike?
It scales with demand on Cloud Run, between zero and your plan's instance limit: 1 on Lite, 2 on Pro, 4 with the Medium hosting size ($79 / app / month) and 8 with Large ($199 / app / month).
