Questions.
What does Plan Builder add over Shopify App Pricing?
Your code can read what each plan includes: feature gates by key, on or off or with a numeric limit. You also get discounts by code or automatic, a pricing page and an account page rendered by the SDK, and usage events with an included quantity, an overage rate and a spending cap, all published to Shopify Billing.
Does Meridian work with Shopify App Pricing?
Meridian's Plan Builder replaces it. Shopify offers two ways to charge merchants: Shopify App Pricing, where you set plans in Shopify and it hosts the plan page, and manual pricing through the Billing API. Plan Builder runs on manual pricing, so your plans, trials, discounts, usage charges and feature gates are all managed in Meridian.
Why does Plan Builder use Shopify's Billing API?
By choice. Shopify App Pricing is young and less flexible: no feature gates in your code, and a plan page Shopify hosts and you cannot change. Plan Builder adds no-code plans, gating, usage analytics and caps, and pricing and account pages inside your app, where you can add reassurance and reviews.
Can I use Meridian if my app is hosted somewhere else?
Yes, for most of it. A self-hosted app keeps feature gating, the CRM, segments, automations, emails, affiliates, the App Store tools and the webhook pipeline, and Meridian still sees the subscriptions it bills itself. Charging merchants through Plan Builder needs Meridian hosting: creating a Shopify charge uses the shop's offline token, which lives in your app's own database.
We used Mantle. Can we move to Meridian?
Yes. Meridian brings plans and billing, CRM, revenue analytics, email, automations and affiliates together with hosting, in one place. Customer Account Blocks moved its app to Meridian in four days after Mantle shut down, with our team's help. Migration services are included on Enterprise, and the team helps on every plan as much as it can. Talk to us to plan yours.
Do merchants have to approve their subscription again when we move?
No. Your merchants' subscriptions live in Shopify, and they keep running when you move. Meridian reads them from the Shopify Partner API, so current plans and billing history show up in Meridian without any merchant approving again.
Does Meridian take a cut of what I charge merchants?
No. Meridian takes no fee or revenue share on the charges you bill through Plan Builder. Merchants pay through Shopify Billing, so Shopify's own revenue share applies as usual, and Meridian is paid only by your plan.
