Mantle, the billing and growth platform for Shopify apps, shut down in 2026: most of its services stopped on 14 August and Mantle Billing on 30 September. No single tool took over everything it did. For billing, Mantle itself pointed to Shopify App Pricing, and its SASI rank tracker has several successors. Meridian covers every one of Mantle’s jobs but the help desk, in one place, and adds hosting.
In short. Simple plans only: Shopify App Pricing, free and hosted by Shopify. Usage caps, feature gates or one-time charges: manual pricing with Shopify’s Billing API, which you build yourself or get from a tool. Meridian’s Plan Builder covers caps, gates and discounts. App Store tracking: App Store Pulse or Letsmetrix, both with a free plan. Affiliates: Affilitrak, PartnerDock or Letsmetrix Affiliate. All of it, with hosting: Meridian.
What happened to Mantle?
Mantle announced on 16 June 2026 that it was winding down. Its notice was explicit:
This wind down will be a complete shutdown of all Mantle properties and eventual destruction of data. You don’t have to worry about it switching hands.
Accounts that didn’t use Mantle Billing lost analytics, affiliates, usage events, flows, email and the help desk on 14 August 2026. Mantle Billing accounts kept everything until 30 September 2026. Mantle said it keeps data for 30 days after each end date, then deletes it, so both windows have now closed. SASI, the Shopify App Store Index that Mantle bought from Union Works in 2024, went with it.
What replaces each part of Mantle?
Mantle and SASI covered seven jobs between them. Most teams now cover them with several tools. The options below come from Mantle’s own migration pages, where it named them, and from vendors that sell a replacement.
Which billing should you use now?
Mantle’s billing notice explained where subscriptions live:
Mantle is a wrapper around Shopify’s Billing API: your subscriptions actually live on Shopify, and Mantle creates and manages them for you.
So replacing it means choosing how your app creates Shopify charges from now on. Shopify offers two routes.
Mantle recommended App Pricing, and warned that it “may not support the Flex Billing model we developed”. Once an app opts in to App Pricing, it can’t create new recurring charges with the Billing API. Since 29 September 2026, apps on the Billing API can move their existing subscriptions to App Pricing, and merchants don’t approve them again. Whichever route you take, Shopify’s revenue share applies: for most developers, 0% on the first $1,000,000 of lifetime app revenue and 15% above it, plus a 2.9% processing fee.
Meridian’s Plan Builder runs on manual pricing. It creates the subscriptions through the Billing API, and adds what App Pricing doesn’t do: feature gates your code reads by key, usage with an included quantity, an overage rate and a spending cap, discounts by code or automatic, and a pricing page and an account page inside your app. Meridian takes no cut of what you bill. Charging through Plan Builder needs your app hosted on Meridian.
Which tools are sold as Mantle replacements?
Several vendors now sell themselves to former Mantle and SASI users. Each one covers part of what Mantle did. Prices are as each vendor lists them on its own site.
If you would rather rebuild in-house, Mantle published open-source guides, mantle-brain, for recreating its billing, analytics and automations in your own stack.
Where does Meridian fit?
For a former Mantle user, Meridian puts plans and billing, revenue analytics, the CRM, email, automations, affiliates and App Store tracking next to the app’s hosting. It is priced per app, from $69 a month on Lite, with a 14-day free trial, no card needed.
- Lite includes 1,000 emails a month from your own sending domain, 1 affiliate program with up to 25 members, and 3 tracked App Store keywords. Pro raises each of them.
- Automations start from 23 built-in triggers, with templates for an install welcome, trial reminders, billing recovery and an uninstall win-back.
- Affiliate commissions are calculated every night from the revenue Shopify reports for your app.
- An app hosted elsewhere still gets feature gating, the CRM, segments, automations, emails, affiliates and the App Store tools.
How do you move from Mantle to Meridian?
- Connect your Shopify Partner account. Meridian reads your merchants’ subscriptions from the Partner API, so nobody approves them again.
- Recreate your plans in Plan Builder, with features as keys your app checks, and send usage with the SDK’s
track(). - Rebuild your flows as automations and your emails in the email builder. Mantle’s merge tags map to Meridian’s names, with a few exceptions listed in the docs. Mantle’s contact export left out who had unsubscribed, so check consent before your first send.
- Set up your affiliate program again, and invite your affiliates.
We migrated our app to Meridian after Mantle shut down. With the team's help, it took 4 days.
Migration services are included on Enterprise.
When is Meridian not the right choice?
- Your plans fit Shopify App Pricing and you need nothing around them: App Pricing is free.
- Your app has opted in to App Pricing: Plan Builder charges through the Billing API, which such an app can no longer use for new recurring charges.
- You want to keep your app on its current host and charge through Plan Builder: charging needs Meridian hosting.
- You need a help desk or a knowledge base for your merchants: Meridian doesn’t offer one.
- You only need App Store tracking: App Store Pulse and Letsmetrix both have a free plan.
